Seafood-linked samonella outbreak in several Colorado counties

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – The CDC, Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), and the FDA are investigating a salmonella outbreak that has sickened more than 100 people in 14 states. Colorado has been badly affected with 82 of the sick people living in 14 counties in Colorado.

CDPHE says the cases have been linked to seafood or processed by Northeast Seafood Products, Inc. of Denver.

The CDC says the majority of those sick are either Colorado residents or said they had traveled to Colorado the week before their illness. Only two people did not travel to Colorado before they fell ill.

Denver-based Northeast Seafood Products, Inc. has recalled haddock, monkfish, bone-in trout, grouper, red snapper, red cod, perch, Pacific cod, halibut, coho salmon , servings of Atlantic salmon, snapper, tilapia, all natural Salmon fillet, Pacific sole and farmed striped bass.

These products have been sold to Albertsons, Safeway and Sprouts restaurants and supermarkets in Colorado until October 7, 2021. Pacific cod sold through Sprouts is not subject to a recall.

Northeast Seafood Products, Inc. has temporarily halted production.

Consumers, restaurants and retailers should not eat, sell or serve the recalled seafood. The FDA recommends that anyone who purchased or received the recalled product check their refrigerators and freezers and discard the recalled product.
