Sealed box of Pokémon cards sells for $ 408,000

As the great Nute Gunray said, it’s getting out of hand.

As more and more people realize the value of the old Pokemon cards, more and more people are flocking to the opportunities to grab, if not all, at least one card worth a ton of money.

Which probably explains why (via Polygon), during a recent auction, a sealed box of 1999 first edition cards sold for $ 408,000.

It’s a lot money, but as a heritage auction report in their description of the sale, the box will contain a first Charizard edition, and one of these recently cost $ 350,000 on its own. If this box contains one, then it was a good investment! If not, well, if you spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on Pokémon cards, you will survive.

I remember I wrote about a first edition box set auctioned in 2018 for $ 56,000 and thought it was crazy, and that – for many reasons, only some Pokemon– related – looks like it was 100 years ago.

Heritage Auctions filmed the tender if watching someone spend $ 408,000 on certain Pokémon cards is something you can bear to see.
