It’s been almost a month since Hollywood lost a legend.

In October, it was learned that Sean Connery had passed away at the age of 90. Relatives of the Oscar winner released a statement on his behalf and revealed he died in the Bahamas, where he mainly spent his later years.

“His wife Micheline and his two sons, Jason and Stéphane have confirmed that he passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his family,” read a statement shared with E! News October 31. “There will be a private ceremony followed by a memorial to be planned once the [coronavirus pandemic] has finished.”

At the time, it was unclear what caused Connery’s death. However, TMZ recently shed light on his passing.

News of the Scottish actor’s cause of death comes less than a month after his wife shared glimpses of his health. In a rare interview, Micheline said her husband is battling dementia.

“He was suffering from dementia and it took a toll on him,” she told the Mail on Sunday (November 1).

“It was not a life for him,” she added. “He hasn’t been able to speak lately. At least he died in his sleep and it was so peaceful. I was with him the whole time and he escaped. That was what he was doing. he wanted.”

Micheline also took a moment to congratulate her husband, saying: “He was a model of a man”.

“It’s going to be very hard without him, I know that,” she confessed. “But it couldn’t go on forever and he left peacefully.”

Connery’s son Jason, who is from a previous marriage, opened up about his father’s passing in an interview with the BBC.

“We are all working to understand this huge event as it only happened so recently, even though my dad has been ill for some time,” Jason said in a statement at the time. “A sad day for everyone who knew and loved my father and a sad loss for everyone around the world who appreciated the wonderful gift he had as an actor.”

Connery was the first actor to play James Bond in the franchise, which is arguably his most notable role.

He has also starred in many beloved films including “The Untouchables” (he won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role), “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade”, “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” and others.
