THOUSAND OAKS, Calif .– Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay succinctly summed up a short week of preparation for the game Wednesday morning as he rushed into a 6:45 a.m. PT Zoom session with reporters.
“It’s a crazy turnaround,” McVay said.
After a 37-20 loss to the Arizona Cardinals (4-0) at SoFi Stadium last Sunday, the Rams (3-1) travel to Seattle on Wednesday for a division game against the Seahawks (2-2) at Lumen Field Thursday Night Football.
“It’s typically for us, on a Wednesday you just bring the players in and set up the first part of your game plan. We’re getting ready to travel here in a few hours,” McVay said. “That’s what I mean by crazy twist.”
The Rams have had four players listed as limited participants on their official injury report this week, including running back Darrell Henderson (ribs), safety Taylor Rapp (ankle), tight end Tyler Higbee (ankle) and l tight end Johnny Mundt (shoulder), but all should be available against the Seahawks.
“All on deck,” McVay said.
The Rams haven’t been training this week, but they have held warm-up sessions for the Seahawks, who just won a 28-21 victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday in Santa Clara, Calif.
Despite suffering his first loss of the season just three days ago, McVay said his players are feeling great as the preparation progressed.
“They saw their eyes,” said McVay, who is 15-5 after a loss and 12-6 in prime-time games.
McVay pointed out that while preparing for the game over a short week requires cramming the game plan, this short week is the most difficult for the players, who are physically taking the brunt of it.
“The turnaround, the crazy turnaround is for these guys,” McVay said of his players. “You just look at how physical this game is and how quickly they turn around, that’s where it’s very, very important from a mental point of view, but so much for the physical – you just have to see their body spinning and making sure we hit on all cylinders as much as possible. “
After Sunday’s loss to the Cardinals, cornerback Jalen Ramsey expressed his continued contempt for football on Thursday night.
“I never like the quick turnaround after a win, a loss, whatever. Not a fan of Thursday night football,” said Ramsey. “But that’s what it is, it’s good for TV, it’s good for ratings, it’s good for the league, so that’s what it is. sort of say ‘F this game’ and we’ve got a game in three days, four days, something like that, and it’s an important game, another division game, so we have to focus really quickly. “
