After the Rams’ loss to the Packers on Saturday afternoon, Rams head coach Sean McVay said Jared Goff was the team’s starting quarterback “right now”.

McVay revisited the topic on Sunday and made it clear that he is not writing Goff’s name in the starting lineup for 2021. McVay said he thinks it is important to evaluate each position and that quarterback wouldn’t be left out of that process this offseason.

“All is under evaluationMcVay said via Greg Beachem of Associated press. “I am not ready to make statements about a starting position or not. We are going to have a level of competition in everything we do.

The importance of evaluating other options at quarterback hasn’t been a part of the Rams’ recent offseason, so it’s a little more important than the usual end-of-season cleaning. The terms of Goff’s contract make it difficult to move on without him, but the door appears to be open for a major change in his role.
