Sean Penn is taking a stand in a way that could upend the entire film and television industry, refusing to work on his new show Gaslit until every member of the cast and crew is vaccinated against COVID- 19.
The actor’s line in the sand comes just days after the premiere of his new directorial film Flag Day, in which he also stars, at the Cannes Film Festival.
Penn offers to facilitate the vaccination effort at no cost to the cast and crew, according to a report from Deadline.

Production began in late April in Los Angeles, with Penn apparently only having a few weeks before wrapping up the series.
Gaslit’s studio, NBCUniversal, has made vaccination mandatory for production members in “Zone A,” which includes cast members and others in close proximity to the cast.
The studio has also made an on-site vaccination clinic available to cast and crew, and they will return within 21 days to administer the second dose.

Apparently, those measures aren’t good enough for Penn, who is himself fully vaccinated, though the report insists he’s not trying to embarrass the studio.
Penn is making these requests because he believes anyone on the set who is not vaccinated is putting the entire production at risk.
While members of the Zone A production should be vaccinated, other members of the team can still approach and potentially spread the virus.

Filming for the series takes place inside Burbank, although apart from members of Zone A, vaccination is not mandatory.

The series also stars Dan Stevens, Betty Gilpin, Allison Tomlin, Darby Camp, Shea Whigham and Anne Dudek.
