Season 3 of ‘Series’ will be developed into HBO limited series

HBO is developing the third season of the hit “Serial” podcast in a limited series, with LeBron James on board the project as executive producer.

The potential series will examine the criminal justice system at work in Cleveland, Ohio. Following a young cop and the man he is accused of beating, he delves into the inner workings of a Middle American courthouse and the impact the system has on everyone in it. ‘it affects: cop, lawyer and citizens accused and victimized by crimes.

Shola Amoo is committed to writing, directing and executive production. James will produce under his SpringHill Company banner with Maverick Carter, Jamal Henderson and Eric Oberland. Sarah Koenig, Emmanuel Dzotsi and Alissa Shipp of Serial Productions will also be executive producers alongside Kary Antholis for Crime Story Media, LLC.

If the project were to go into series, it wouldn’t be the first time that “Serial” had premiered on HBO. The high-end cable maker already aired the documentary series “The Case Against Adnan Syed” in March 2019. Syed’s case was the subject of the podcast’s first season.

The SpringHill Company is a global consumer and entertainment brand. It brings together three companies created by James and Carter: Uninterrupted, the athlete empowerment consumer products and media company; SpringHill Entertainment, the premier film and television production company with and without screenplay; and The Robot Company, brand and culture consulting.

Amoo previously wrote and directed the feature film “The Last Tree,” which premiered in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition section of the 2019 Sundance Film Festival. The semi-autobiographical film follows Femi, an Anglo-Nigerian boy who leaves a foster family in a rural white community to live with his mother in central London, and learns what it means to be a young black man in London in the early 2000s. Other credits include the films ” A Moving Image ”and Searchlight’s upcoming feature“ Sting Like a Bee: Muhammed Ali vs. The United States of America ”.

Amoo is replaced by CAA and Curtis Brown in the UK. Serial Productions is taken over by UTA. The SpringHill Company is replaced by WME and Ziffren Brittenham. Crime Story Media, LLC is changed to WME.
