The Montreal Canadiens could have, to borrow WWE vocabulary, prepare for a shoot, brother.
As of Friday evening, reports surfaced that Carey Award waived his no-move clause so the Habs can make him available in the expansion draft and protect replacement Jake Allen (2.68 GAA, 0.907 SV%). The thought process here was that Price’s contract is so massive (bad) and there are so many other good quality / best value goalkeepers available the Kraken wouldn’t think twice before they did. write Price.
Except. They totally are. And now, a section of Twitter of the Habs is losing their minds on the subject.
Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun tweeted on Sunday afternoon, hours after the release of the NHL Protection Lists, that the Kraken “takes a deep dive internally” on whether or not to pick the winner of the NHL. Hart trophy.
It’s a heavy contract, that’s for sure, but I’ve been told the Seattle Kraken is looking internally over whether to take Carey Price on the expansion project. I guess they don’t make it in the end, but I think there’s a better chance than I initially thought. Intriguing.

FWIW, for those considering the idea of Seattle picking Price only to trade him to Montreal, the Habs throwing picks / assets in Seattle for the Kraken to keep their paycheck etc. : NHL informed both clubs that it was a total refusal. League considers this to be an obvious workaround.

Price’s possible exit from Montreal is excruciating for some Habs fans. Price is a huge fan favorite in Montreal and just led the Canadiens to the 2021 Stanley Cup Final after posting a 2.28 GAA and .924 save percentage in the playoffs.

There are other Habs fans who are a little more optimistic: that if Price is selected, the Habs would have plenty of room to rebuild the team… that Bergevin would then waste.
I will go ahead and take a user’s advice who wrote “Habs Twitter is a **** show until the extension draft, you better go a few days!”
Update: Frank Seravalli reports the latest twist in Price’s availability. The health of the goalkeeper is now a concern and he could miss “an important time” next season with a hip injury.
