The Seahawks’ season that ended with a whimper led many to believe that major changes were needed. Just days after Seattle’s wild card lost to the Rams, something happened.
On Tuesday, the Seahawks announced that the team and offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer had mutually agreed to go their separate ways, citing philosophical differences.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Schottenheimer had been fired, rather than a mutual separation.
The Seahawks fired OC Brian Schottenheimer. His offense set a number of Seahawks records. But after the meeting last night, it was obvious that there were philosophical differences between Schottenheimer and HC Pete Carroll. They decided that a separation was in the best interests of both parties.

Schottenheimer’s three seasons as the Seahawks’ offensive coordinator have yielded mixed results, with a heavy 2018 discouraging many before the team slowly headed in the right direction in the pass / run divisions. Schottenheimer also helped Seattle to a top 10 scorer in each of its three seasons and helped improve Russell Wilson’s pocket play.
In 2020, the team and Wilson got off to a historic start, before quickly regressing. At the end of the season, the quarterback and the offense looked broken. Instead of stepping into the head coaching carousel as has been reported, Schottenheimer will now be looking for a new job.
Schottenheimer’s departure will see Pete Carroll hire the fourth offensive coordinator of his tenure in Seattle, after Jeremy Bates and Darrell Bevell came before Schottenheimer.
