The Seattle Seahawks have selected John Ursua, former receiver of the University of Hawaii, for the seventh round of the NFL draft.

"It's my favorite bird," Ursua said of Seattle's mascot.

Ursua told the Star Advertiser of Honolulu that Seattle head coach, Pete Carroll, had called him throughout the third day of the repechage. Ursua said that he had been told that he would probably be offered a free agent contract. But Carroll again called to say that the Seahawks had a seventh round pick to use on Ursua.

"It was exciting," said Ursua about the selection. "I've had the feeling all day that I was going to Seattle."

In December, Ursua announced that he would give up his senior season at UH to sign up for the NFL draft. During UH's professional day, Ursua impressed with his speed in fast cutting exercises, fieldwork and strength. He supported 17 pounds on 225 pounds.

Ursua responded to calls from the 32 NFL teams. Four teams brought him for personal training. But the Seahawks were the most persistent.
