Seattle Seahawks vs. Arizona Cardinals, Week 11

In a short week after a terrible loss, the Seattle Seahawks clinched a convincing victory over the Arizona Cardinals, then NFC West. Now back in the top spot in the division and heading into a mini-bye week, the Seahawks will hopefully see a number of players come back from injury before Week 12.

Already a player who has returned has had a major impact and carried his position group. That and more notes, below.

  • DK Metcalf consistently plays over 90% of the shots in the attack, which is pretty unusual for a wide receiver. He has proven to be an absolute warrior and rarely, if ever, steps out of the field. Metcalf is a luxury for the offense in every way.

  • As mentioned above, Carlos Hyde returned for Seattle on Thursday and carried the backfield, playing 70% of the shots and producing 79 yards and a score on 14 carries. It should have been obvious then and definitely is now: losing Hyde and Chris Carson at the same time was a huge blow.
  • With Hyde returning, DeeJay Dallas found snaps hard to come by, playing 11%, while practice caller Bo Scarbrough played 18% before leaving with a painful injury.
  • Will Dissly just released broken Greg Olsen who was kicked out, with 65% of the shots at 61 Olsen. It will be fascinating to see how they handle the position going forward with Olsen taken out. Jacob Hollister, who has seen his role grow in recent weeks, has only played 20% of the shots.

  • Jarran Reed, 82%, and Carlos Dunlap, 76%, played more than ideal, but frankly the Seahawks needed it. And they delivered in the biggest spots.

  • Ugo Amadi saw 70% of the defensive shots against the extensive Arizona attack, and was absolutely everywhere as usual. Amadi just has a fantastic sense of direction of the ball and is so strong as a tackler when he arrives.

  • Rasheem Green played a season of 60% defensive shots which was encouraging to see as he returned from a neck injury. Green is probably the team’s third best passing shooter and getting him more involved will be a big boost down the stretch.

  • On his second appearance, Snacks Harrison’s shots increased to 39% and he appeared to be more active. Now that he’s been bred twice, it’s likely that a roster change will come before Week 12 in order to get him into the 53-player roster.
  • Benson Mayowa has had a quiet comeback from injury, playing just 27% of the defense’s snaps. I have to imagine that this is more related to his return to training.

  • Finally, Jordyn Brooks only played 37% of the snaps, against 94% for KJ Wright. I thought this wasn’t a problem at all in week 11, it would still be nice to see those two rotations more often than they have been.
