ORLANDO, Fla. – SeaWorld CEO Gus Antorcha has resigned, the company said on Monday.

Antorcha, who was rehired in February, previously served as Carnival Cruise Line COO.

"We thank Gus for his contributions and wish him well in his future endeavors," said Scott Ross, chairman of the board of directors, in a statement.

In place of Antorcha, SeaWorld CFO, Marc Swanson, has been appointed Interim Executive Director.

"Marc has been with the company for 19 years and has a deep understanding of the company, its parks and its strategy," said Ross. "He has been decisively contributing to the success of the company for several years."

SeaWorld said that Antorcha's resignation had been caused by "disagreements over the board's involvement in the company's decision-making".

"Although I may have a difference in approach, I still believe in SeaWorld's strategy, mission, team and outlook," Antorcha said in a statement.

The news of the resignation of Antorcha arrives the same day SeaWorld has laid off 100 employees in his Orlando Call Center, transferring the business to a third-party provider.

SeaWorld has seen an upsurge in recent years, recording an increase in attendance and revenue. As part of its current strategy, the company plans to open new attractions in its parks each year.

Last weekSeaWorld Orlando and Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay have shared additional information on their new coasters, which are expected to open in 2020.
