In year 1 under coach Shane projector, South Carolina is 2-1 (0-1 SEC). The next step for Beamer and the Gamecocks is a Saturday night showdown with Kentucky. Kick-off against the Wildcats is scheduled for 7 a.m. on ESPN2.

From South Carolina’s game scores …

CAROLINE VS. KENTUCKY: This is the 33rd meeting between the Gamecocks and the Wildcats in a series dating back to 1937. Carolina leads the all-time series 18-13-1, including a 9-5-1 advantage in Colombia. The teams only played three times (1937, 1978 and 1981) before Carolina joined the SEC in 1992. Since then, they have met every year. Since joining the SEC, the Gamecocks are 17-12 against the United Kingdom, including wins in 14 of 21 games this century.

THE LAST TIME THEY MEET: Due to the schedule change by COVID, the Gamecocks and Wildcats only met in the last regular season game of the 2020 season, a Dec. 5 contest in Lexington. Kentucky claimed a 41-18 victory over Carolina that night, the Cats’ biggest margin of victory in 32 games with the Gamecocks. Both teams effectively moved the ball to the ground, with South Carolina rushing for 297 yards, behind Kevin Harris’ 210 yards on 21 carries. Kentucky responded with 291 rushing yards as Chris Rodriguez Jr. and AJ Rose each surpassed the milestone of the century. Luc Doty, making just his second career start as a quarterback, completed 11 of 25 passes for 85 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
