The Associated Press released its 72nd preseason college football poll on Monday. The SEC has five teams ranked in the country’s top 25 preseason. The SEC teams in the 2021 preseason poll are Alabama at No.1, Georgia at No.5, Texas A&M at No.6, Florida at No.13, and LSU at No.16. SEC Football by the Numbers takes a look at this year’s pre-season poll:
0 The seasons in which Auburn was not ranked in the AP preseason poll did not allow the Tigers to be ranked during the season. Since the AP preseason rankings began in 1950, 18 of the polls did not include Auburn, including this season’s. In the previous 17 cases, the Tigers have finished 13 times in the last AP poll – five times in the final top eight. In the four seasons in which Auburn was unranked in the pre-season and final polls, the Tigers reached No.10 in the poll in the 1962 season, 19th in 1978, 17th in 2001 and 17th in 2009.
