SEC Football in numbers: Top 10 of week 3

The third Saturday of the 89th SEC season features 12 games, including two conference competitions with Alabama in Florida and South Carolina in Georgia. Here are 10 numbers, along with the schedule, TV, and betting lines, to get ready for SEC third football on Saturday 2021:

0 Wins in 10 games against Alabama for Florida coach Dan Mullen, who will try again when the Crimson Tide visits the Gators on Saturday. Mullen has the most losses of any coach against Alabama without at least one win. Nine of Mullen’s losses came when he coached Mississippi State, and the most recent is Florida’s 52-46 loss to Alabama in the 2020 SEC Championship game.

2 The former SEC coaches will return to Tiger Stadium to face LSU in non-conference games this season. Former Florida coach Jim McElwain will lead Central Michigan against the Tigers on Saturday. On November 20, former Auburn coach Terry Bowden will lead Louisiana-Monroe against LSU. McElwain was 1-2 against LSU in three seasons in Florida, including a 16-10 win at Baton Rouge in 2016. Bowden was 3-3 against LSU from 1993 to 1998 at Auburn, including victories at Tiger Stadium in 1993 and 1997.

3 Wins and six losses for Auburn against opponents classified out of conference in their home stadiums. The Tigers beat No.16 Miami, Florida 3-0 in 1974, No.9 Florida State 42-41 in 1984, and No.20 Kansas State 20-14 in 2014 in regular season road games. Auburn lost to No.19 Santa Clara 12-0 in 1936, No.4 Boston College 33-7 in 1940, No.18 Wake Forest 42-38 in 1979, No.4 Texas 35-27 in 1984 , No. 18 Southern Cal 24-17 in 2002 and No. 3 Clemson 14-6 in 2017 in regular season road games. The margin of victory has been eight points or less in the last seven games.

3 The coaches have won 100 conference games for a single SEC school, with Alabama coach Nick Saban entering Saturday’s game against Florida with a 99-15 field record in regular season competitions in the league with the Crimson Tide. Paul “Bear” Bryant had a 137-28-5 record in Alabama from 1958 to 1982, Johnny Vaught had a 106-41-10 record in Ole Miss from 1947 to 1970 and in 1973 and Vince Dooley had a 105-41 -4 record in Georgia from 1964 to 1988 in SEC games.

5 Back-to-back wins for Stanford and five straight losses for Penn State in games against SEC opponents. The Cardinal visits Vanderbilt and the Nittany Lions host Auburn on Saturday. Since losing to Alabama 29-13 at the Rose Bowl on January 1, 1935, in their first game against an SEC opponent, Stanford has beaten Tulane in regular season games in 1961, 1962 and 1965, LSU in the The 1977 Sun Bowl and Georgia at the 1978 Bluebonnet Bowl. The 25-22 victory over the Bulldogs on December 31, 1978 was Stanford’s most recent game against an SEC opponent. Saturday’s game will be the Cardinal’s third on SEC land after trips to New Orleans to play Tulane in 1962 and 1965. Penn State’s most recent victory over an SEC opponent is a victory. 19-17 on LSU in the Capital One Bowl on Jan. 1, 2010. Since then, Penn State has lost regular season games with Alabama in 2010 and 2011 and has suffered bowl losses to Florida, Georgia and Kentucky. Penn State is 16-21 against SEC opponents – 6-13 in the regular season and 10-8 in Bowls. The Nittany Lions are 3-6 in home games against SEC opponents.

8 Since South Carolina joined the SEC in 1992, the Gamecocks have handed Georgia their first loss of the season. South Carolina won the first loss to the Bulldogs in 1993, 2000, 2001, 2007, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2019. Georgia are 2-0 in Saturday’s game against South Carolina.

17 Back-to-back wins for Alabama when the Crimson Tide opens its SEC program on the road. Alabama recently set a conference record of 0-1 after a road game in 1991, when the Tide lost their first league game 35-0 in Florida. Alabama will play its first league game of the 2021 season in Florida on Saturday.

37 Years since Tulane beat a ranked team on the road. The Green Wave visits No.17 Ole Miss on Saturday. Since defeating No.19 Vanderbilt 27-23 on Oct.6, 1984, in Nashville, Tulane has lost 28 straight road games to ranked opponents, including a 40-35 loss to No.2 in Oklahoma September 4. the losses came against opponents of the SEC. Ole Miss has 11 straight wins over Tulane since a 14-9 loss on November 5, 1988. The Green Wave has lost eight in a row to SEC opponents since a 32-29 victory over Mississippi State in 2006. Tulane has a 33-94 record against SEC opponents since leaving the conference after the 1965 season.

57 Games have been played by Arkansas since the Razorbacks enjoyed a three-game winning streak. The Razorbacks won their first three games of the 2016 season and have secured back-to-back wins since then – in 2017, when they followed wins over Ole Miss and Coastal Carolina with a 33-10 loss to LSU, and this season , which started with wins over Rice and Texas heading into Saturday’s game against Georgia Southern. Every other SEC team has had at least one three-game winning streak since Arkansas recently had one.

90 Years since Auburn’s previous regular-season game against a Big Ten opponent, something that will happen again on Saturday at Penn State. The Tigers tied Wisconsin 7-7 on October 10, 1931, in Madison, Wisconsin. Since then, Auburn has faced 13 Big Ten opponents in Bowls, including each of the past three seasons. The Tigers are 7-6 in those games. Auburn has another game against an opponent from the Big Ten – a 0-0 draw against Ohio State on November 24, 1917, in Montgomery.
