The SEC reshuffled its football schedule for this week, which allowed Vanderbilt to play Missouri on Saturday instead of the Commodores ‘initially scheduled home game against Tennessee and the Tigers’ originally scheduled home game against Arkansas.
The SEC said in a statement that the Arkansas-Missouri game has been postponed due to a combination of positive testing, contact tracing and subsequent quarantine of individuals within the Arkansas football program, in accordance with SEC COVID-19 management requirements.
The Vanderbilt-Missouri game is a rescheduling of a game postponed October 17. The game will be played at noon ET on Saturday and televised by the SEC network. Missouri also saw their Nov. 14 game against Georgia postponed.
The Tennessee-Vanderbilt game has been postponed in an attempt to facilitate rescheduling of the Vanderbilt-Missouri game, according to the SEC. This is the second time in three weeks that Tennessee has a game postponed. Tennessee’s Nov. 14 home game against Texas A&M was postponed due to COVID-19 tracing / contract issues in the Aggies’ schedule and postponed to Dec.12.
“As we continue to adapt to current realities, it is important to remain flexible as we move through the final weeks of the season,” said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. “Contact tracing continues to be the main factor contributing to game disruptions. We will continue to manage the remaining weeks of the football program to allow as many games as possible.”
Sankey had previously said league officials were exploring the possibility of playing makeup games on December 19, the day of the SEC Championship game, with teams not involving the division champions.
The SEC said on Monday that the advisability of rescheduling the Arkansas-Missouri and Tennessee-Vanderbilt games would be evaluated and noted that the postponement of games to the remaining SEC schedule would include Dec. 19 as a play date.
