Second arrest related to David Ortiz's shooting

A spokeswoman for the national prosecutor's office of the Dominican Republic said that a second person had been arrested as part of the investigation into the shooting of David Ortiz, a former Red Sox star.

There is no public indication that the man is the alleged gunman. The spokeswoman, Julieta Tejeda, reported the arrest to a group of reporters via WhatsApp on Tuesday night, but declined to provide further details.

The former Red Sox slugger, known as "Big Papi", was hit on the chest Sunday night at the Dial Bar and Lounge in Santo Domingo.

Ortiz brought the Red Sox to three world championships, was a star player 10 times and hit 541 home runs during his career. He was hailed as a hero in Boston for joining the city after the bombing of the Boston Marathon. He retired after his 2016 season and spent part of the year in the Dominican Republic, where he is known to frequent the nightlife.
