Newly uncovered documents have confirmed that John Mulaney has been the subject of a Secret Service investigation for an “inappropriate” “Saturday Night Live” joke about President Donald Trump.
A file was opened on the 38-year-old comedian – who recently signed up for drug rehab for alcohol and cocaine addiction – after his opening monologue on February 29, 2020, on the episode of “SNL Began to “gain considerable attention,” according to documents obtained by the Associated Press.

However, Secret Service agents “did not question Mulaney”, according to the files.
The investigation into Mulaney was opened in March and closed in December, with officers deciding not to take further action.
Mulaney himself revealed the investigation during an interview with Jimmy Kimmel in December, in which he claimed to have been questioned.
“The person who examined me was very understanding that the joke had nothing to do with Donald Trump because it was an elliptical reference to him,” Mulaney told Kimmel.
“They said if it was a joke then I’m cleared by the Secret Service.”
