The CEO of Victoria's Secret said Friday in a memo to staff that broadcast networks were no longer "the ideal solution" for its annual fashion shows, which have seen their rating decline in recent seasons.

In a note obtained by CNBC, Les Wexner, CEO of L Brands, wrote that "fashion is a business of change. We must evolve and change to grow. Keeping this in mind, we decided to rethink the traditional Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. "

"In the future, we do not think that network television fits perfectly," he continued. "In 2019 and beyond, we are focused on developing exciting and dynamic content and a new type of event, delivered to our clients on platforms to which it is pasted … and d & # 39; a way that will push the limits of fashion in the global digital era. "

ABC and CBS both declined to comment on Wexner's note when contacted by Friday's deadline.

CBS had broadcast the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show for 15 seasons before moving to ABC last year. In December, this last network was broadcast Special Victoria's Secret fashion show vacations December 2 (a Sunday, in front of Sunday evening football). It attracted 3.3 million viewers and a score of 0.9 among 18- to 49-year-olds, which is less the low numbers from the previous year in both indicators.
