Major restaurant groups, business contractors and a large Massachusetts dairy farmer were among the biggest beneficiaries of the government’s coronavirus relief program for small businesses, according to new federal files.

The Small Business Administration on Wednesday released aggregate data on pandemic relief recipients, including more than $ 521 billion distributed through the SBA’s paycheck protection program.

Borrowers could request up to $ 10 million to cover payroll and eligible business expenses.

The government this week gave its most detailed account yet of how that money has been spent, after NBC News and other media organizations filed an information complaint.

Records show that nearly 118,000 Bay State businesses were approved for SBA loans between April 3, 2020 and August 8, 2020, ranging from as low as $ 5 to the maximum loan amount of $ 10 million. dollars.

SBA records show that 15 companies in Massachusetts were approved for this amount, although it is not clear whether all borrowed or kept the full amount.

Boston-based NBC10 investigators previously found that at least two dozen listed companies in Massachusetts received government money, including some that previously paid multi-million dollar salaries to company executives.
