See Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana in Spencer’s first trailer

Twilight Fame’s Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana? This casting, for the upcoming Spencer movie, has struck some as strange, but there is no doubt that Stewart was made up to look like the late royal. And now the first trailer for the film has been released, showing Stewart in the role. And she even speaks, very briefly.

The short teaser shows much of the intellectual life at the palace, with rolling and labeled cabinets, trotting corgis, fancy dishes in preparation. Then there’s Stewart’s Diana, holding her head in distress as a staff member calls out, “Ma’am? They’re waiting for you.”

Spencer, directed by Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larraín, focuses on Christmas 1991, with Diana and Prince Charles spending the holidays at Sandringham House in Norfolk, England, as their marriage turns disaster.

Stewart bears a strange resemblance to Diana in posters and published photos from the film. She can’t quite maintain that lookalike quality in the teaser, but it’s a pretty good attempt nonetheless. She only heard a short sentence in the movie, so it’s hard to judge whether Stewart, who is from Los Angeles, can capture Diana’s whispered and distinctive voice. But fans can determine for themselves if the film is Diana’s pride in theaters on November 5.
