Get ready to kick off another season of Zoom rewards.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announces the 2021 Golden Globe Awards nominations on Wednesday, officially kicking off the awards season. In a first for Globes, the ceremony on February 28 will be broadcast from both coasts.
The nominations, which honor the best film and television performances and productions in 2020 – the year we needed entertainment more than ever – are revealed by previous winners Sarah Jessica Parker and Taraji P. Henson starting at 8:36 a.m. via live broadcast.
Hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, the Golden Globes are scheduled to air Sunday, February 28. The Globes, which will air on NBC, typically take place on the first Sunday of the year, but have been pushed back amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. .
This year also marks a first for the ceremony, which will air from two different coasts – rather than Beverly Hills, California, where it typically takes place. Fey will host Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Center in New York City while Poehler will be at the usual venue, the Beverly Hilton.
The nods in the larger categories are big signs of what’s to come for the Oscars later – although this year the gap between ceremonies is much bigger. The 2021 Oscars, typically held in February, have been postponed until Sunday, April 25, in hopes theaters would reopen so more films could be eligible. Instead, it changed the rules, making streaming-only movies eligible for the first time.
While the format of the Globes show is still unknown, the Academy Awards will certainly be an “in person” affair at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California, the Academy said in December.
This year’s Globes mark the fourth time Fey, 50, and Poehler, 49, will share hospitality duties together. The pair previously played hosts at the Globes from 2013 to 2015, though this is the first time the former “SNL” co-stars will do so in a pandemic and on opposite sides of the country.
Jane Fonda, 83, is set to receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award, the highest honor bestowed on a “person who has had an incredible impact” in film, at the 78th annual ceremony. Norman Lear, 98, will win the Carol Burnett Award for his iconic contributions to the history of television.
