The core of the Huawei Mate 30 Pro and the foldable Mate X will be a new 5G chipset, which was spotted for the first time in the corridors of the IFA 2019 this week.
The Kirin 990 Chipset manufactured by Huawei appeared on a not-so-subtle convention center banner and was photographed by a savvy Twitter user Roland Quandt.
Huawei has an uncertain future due to Huawei's ban in the United States, but it continues to progress with new technologies, as evidenced by the Kirin 990 chipset. We had already heard of the Kirin 990 when Huawei had confirmed that he would feed the Mate X.

The panel states that the Kirin 990 chipset will have built-in 5G capabilities. This means that there will be no need for an external 5G modem in addition to the chipset. The chip is also built on a 7nm FinFET Plus design using Extreme Ultraviolet lithography, for a dense and energy efficient design.
However, there had been speculation previously that Huawei's future flagship phones would have a Kirin 985 chipset. Now, this does not rule out this possibility. If Huawei chooses to offer the 5G and 4G-LTE variants only of its next phones, it could use different chipsets for each.
Not the only player
As exciting as this news may be for Huawei fans considering a future Huawei P40 or the upcoming Mate X foldable, Huawei is not the only company to embark on chipsets with built-in 5G capabilities.
Samsung has just announced the Exynos 980 chipset, which will also feature an integrated 5G modem. And, it should be in mass production by the end of this year and land in the Samsung Galaxy S11.
The Huawei Kirin 990 will probably appear in the flagship devices. So this can be the bonus of chipsets. The Samsung Exynos 980 chipset seems to have specifications that will position it better in midrange 5G phones.
However, Huawei will probably be the first on the market. The launch of the Mate 30 Pro is scheduled for September 19th. It would be a bad idea that Huawei is touting its new chip before launching a phone built around nothing less.
