Sei Young Kim wins at Mediheal, proves that she can win with any score, on any course

DALY CITY, Calif. – Sei Young Kim lifted the Mediheal Championship trophy late Sunday night with his caddy marveling in the background.

Paul Fusco has seen his player win in every way now.

He saw her mount a spectacular fireworks display winning the Thornberry Classic last year, breaking the LPGA's 72-hole record. Her under-31 total was four shots better than the record of the previous tour, which she shared with Hall of Famer member Annika Sorenstam. Fusco was there when Kim took part in this feat in Phoenix to win the Founders' Cup in 2016 and thus establish the Sorenstam brand.

Fusco was also present in his rookie year when Kim defeated his idol, Inbee Park, staggeringly at the Lotte Championship in 2015. This is the year Kim finished his approach at the 72North Dakota hole, pretending she was going to lose a chance to win her second LPGA title. But after receiving a penalty, she managed a total of 154 meters to force the match-off with Park.

"She is one of those special players," Fusco said. "When she shoots with cylinders, she can do crazy things. Today she showed that she could do it even when she did not look like her game. She showed that she could always win.

With Sunday's win, Kim showed she could win when her score was good.

Lake Merced was disguised as a major, with pinched fairways, thick, hard, rough and firm greens.

She has now won at 31 and under 7.

"I think it was the toughest win of my life," said Kim, who is now 4-0 in the LPGA playoffs. "In my other wins, I played well in the last innings. Today, I was not good in the final.

Kim won despite a 3 on the normal 75.

She defeated Jeongeun Lee6 and Bronte Law with a birdie in the first hole of the playoffs.

It was the eighth LPGA title for Kim, his first "come-from-ahead" victory. This is what happened after she gave a lead of three strokes on the first two holes. She wasted it with a double bogey on the first and a bogey on the second. She shot 40 on the first nine.

It was not long before Kim continued, with Law staging a show in front of her. Law shot 65 in a torrid series of five birdies and an eagle in a nine-hole sequence in the middle of the round.

"The feeling was:" Hang in there, you did it in the first round and you came back and you can do it again, "Fusco said.

Kim started the tournament just as badly. She did not feel like she was going to make the cut on Thursday. She was 4 after her first four holes in the first round.

"Something we talk about a lot does not react, does not get too emotional when things are not going well," Fusco said. "It makes the game easier.

"The media always wants to know what a player thinks, we do not really want to think too much, it's like," Here's the number, hit. "I know that's not what the media wants to hear. not very entertaining, but it's as simple as that. "

Kim won on a golf course she did not really like.

"It did not suit me, because of the many trees," said Kim. "I kept talking to myself, telling myself:" I love this golf course … "I love it now."

Kim has now won each of her first five seasons on tour.

"I learned a lot today," Kim said.

She learned that there may not be a configuration she could not conquer.
