Nestle Prepared Foods is recalling more than 762,000 pounds of hot pepperoni pouches after consumers complained they found pieces of glass or plastic in the product. At least one case resulted in a minor mouth injury, according to a recall notice posted on the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Inspection and Safety Service website.
The Kentucky-based company said it received four complaints about non-ready-to-eat products, which were manufactured from November 13, 2020 to November 16, 2020. The product has a 14-month shelf life.
As a result, the company is recalling the 54 ounces. carton packs containing 12 “Nestle HOT POCKETS BRAND SANDWICHES: PREMIUM PEPPERONI MADE WITH PORK, CHICKEN AND BEEF PIZZA WITH GARLIC BUTTER CRUST” with a date “BEFORE FEB 2022” and lot codes 0318544624. 0319544614, 0320544614 and 0320544614 and.

The product has been distributed to retailers in the United States and Puerto Rico.
On the company’s website, a recall notice said other variations of the product, including those packaged in two, five and 17 count varieties, are not affected by the recall.
Other product variants which are packaged in different quantities are not affected by the recall.
“The quality, safety and integrity of Nestlé USA and Hot Pockets products remain our number one priority,” the company said on its website. “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this action poses to both our consumers and our retail customers.”

The company did not specify what could have happened during production to cause the contamination.
Anyone who finds the recalled product in their freezer should throw it away or return it to the place of purchase. Those with additional questions are asked to contact Consumer Services at (800) 350-5016.
