In a later scene, the words “Does Selena Gomez even have a kidney?” are written near a few lockers on the walls of the school.
Selenators certainly didn’t find the scenes funny. Many have used social media to demand deletion Saved by the Bell by Peacock, and started the “RESPECT SELENA GOMEZ” trend on Twitter.
“Using what Selena Gomez went through for entertainment is blatantly callous and wrong,” one fan tweeted. “What she went through was real and it wasn’t easy. It’s so incredibly disgusting to see this being used as a joke for entertainment. RESPECT SELENA GOMEZ.”
Another wrote: “@ peacockTV we apologize to @selenagomez for mocking Selena’s health issues. Between 5 and 10 million people die from kidney disease each year. Serious health problems should never be a joke. Stop using Selena’s struggles for profit for your show flop.
In September 2017, Gomez revealed she had undergone a kidney transplant to fight her lupus, an autoimmune and inflammatory disease that sometimes causes kidney failure, when she posted an Instagram photo of herself holding the hand with grown up star and kidney donor Raisa in their adjacent hospital beds.
