In a note shared on Twitter following the chaos in Washington DC, Gomez specifically named Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Google as entities, as well as YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Twitter Jack Dorsey and CEO of Alphabet Inc. and Google Sundar Pichai.

“Today, this is the result of allowing hateful people to use platforms that should be used to bring people together and allow people to create community,” she wrote, before naming the aforementioned list of technology leaders. “You have all let down the American people today, and I hope you will fix things in the future.”

Gomez has openly shared his condemnation of Facebook’s disinformation before. In December, she denounced inaccuracies about the COVID-19 vaccine on the platform. “Scientific disinformation has cost and will cost lives,” she writes. “@Facebook said they don’t allow lies about COVID and vaccines to be spread on their platforms. So how come all of this is still happening? Facebook will be responsible for thousands of deaths if they do not act now! “
