Senate Passes Financing Bill to Prevent Government Closure, Sends Trump

The Senate voted Thursday to pass a temporary funding bill and avoid a government shutdown at the end of the month.

The chamber approved the law by 82-15 points. As the House has already passed the measure, the Senate vote passes it on to President Donald Trump for it to sign.

He should sign it before the September 30th deadline.

The so-called resolution continues funding the government until November 21, setting up another potential clash over spending just a week before Thanksgiving. Legislators will have to hear about departmental spending levels in another dispute over border security and military funding.

Congress has already passed legislation to suspend the federal debt ceiling and set government spending levels for two years. Legislators must pass separate bills that allocate funds to specific agencies, triggering them.
