Senator Graham comments on Georgia voting restriction

Senator Lindsey Graham said the new Republican-backed law in Georgia that places heavy restrictions on voting does not “make sense.”

A provision in a new law signed last week by Georgia GOP Governor Brian Kemp imposes stricter identification requirements for voters who vote by mail, limits the number of ballot boxes for ballots , gives state officials more power over how elections are run and prohibits volunteers from giving food and water to people who line up to vote.

In an interview with Fox News Sunday presenter Chris Wallace asked Graham, “Senator, why the hell, if Americans are willing to wait hours to vote, would it be a crime for people to come and give them a water bottle? ?

“Well, all I can say is it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me,” the South Carolina Republican replied. “I agree with you.”

As reported by Insider’s Grace Panetta, Section 33 of SB202 reads: “No one shall solicit votes in any manner or by any means or method, distribute or display campaign material, or give, offer or offer. to give or participate in the delivery of money or gifts, including, but not limited to, food and drink to a voter, and no one shall solicit signatures for a petition, nor any person, other as election officials performing their duties, establish or set up tables or booths each day the votes are cast.

The law has been criticized by Democrats, including President Joe Biden, who called the new voting law “Jim Crow in the 21st century.”

In 2020, Biden became the first Democratic presidential candidate to win Georgia since 1991. The state’s Democrats enjoyed another major victory when they won Georgia’s second-round Senate elections in January.

Asked about the Republican voting restrictions and shown an excerpt from Biden calling these efforts “sick” and “un-American,” Graham said Biden used the “race card.”

“You know, what’s sick is that the President of the United States is playing the running card, all the time, in such a hypocritical way,” Graham said.

He added: “Every time a Republican does something, we are racist. If you are a white conservative, you are a racist. If you are a black Republican, you are either an accessory or an Uncle Tom. They are using the racism card to advance a Liberal agenda and we have had enough.
