Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., Maintained on “Fox News Primetime” Monday that there was “nothing racial” about the recent remarks he made regarding the Capitol rioters and Black Lives Matter.
Johnson was criticized last week after he said in a radio interview that if he did not fear for his safety as Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6, he “could have be a little worried “if the crowd was associated with Black Lives Matter or Antifa.
Fox News Primetime host Maria Bartiromo asked Johnson to respond to criticism from the liberal “wake-up crowd” who attacked the social media comment.
“It is completely disproportionate,” replied the senator. “There is nothing racial about my comments. The left is happy to use the race card whenever it can. These are riots and rioters, leftist activists and anarchists. “

The senator explained that he “was not talking about the people who actually stormed the Capitol and assaulted the police,” in his previous remark. “I condemned this, as I condemn, quite frankly, anyone who revolted over the summer that sparked riots started by left-wing activists.”
“I was just talking about the vast majority of people I know who are Trump supporters who love law enforcement, support law enforcement, would never even think of riots or breaking the law. And that’s the vast majority of people who have come here to Washington, DC, ”he said.
Johnson argued in an interview with Milwaukee radio station WISN-AM earlier Monday that his comments could not be considered racist because several Black Lives Matter protesters are white.

“Remember those left-wing activists, these protesters, that some of them turned into riots? A lot of them are white,” he said, according to the Associated Press. “So there is no racism involved in all of this.”
Johnson signaled earlier this month that he may not seek re-election in 2022.
