22992 head of cattle lost (Macky Sall)

A total of 22,996 cattle were decimated during bad weather last week, said Thursday at Bokki Dior, in the town of Ribot Escale, Koungheul department (Kaffrine), the head of state, Macky Sall.

"The rural populations of some localities including those of Kaffrine, Louga, Tambacounda and Matam have lost a large number of subjects among their livestock," he lamented.

"This situation, marked by high mortality of females and young males who are fragile, has been aggravated by a fodder deficit as wintering approaches," said Macky Sall.

"The well-being of rural populations, especially pastoralists, is and remains the object of our greatest demands," said the head of state who noted that "the government has taken full measure of the circumstances caused by this disaster ".

The President of the Republic recalled to greet him that "from Sunday, July 1, the Minister of Livestock and Animal Production has mobilized his services to take stock of the losses of registered animals."

This, said the head of state, in relation with representatives of professional organizations of breeders, deputies, members of the High Council of Local Authorities, those of the Economic and Social Economic Council, administrative and territorial authorities .

Now, "we must properly take care of dead animals to avoid health risks and certain nuisances, increase awareness of the populations, to bring actors to subscribe an insurance policy dedicated to the extensive breeding system" said the head of state.
