The number of cases of cholera in Cameroon amounted to 53 with the spread of the disease in Douala, the economic metropolis where two cases were notified Tuesday, according to a new report of which Xinhua was informed Wednesday night at the Ministry of Public Health.
After three cases that were notified May 18 in the North, the epidemic continues to grow in the country. Of the ten administrative regions, three are now affected, with two cases recorded in the Deïdo and Nylon health districts in the city of Douala.
The first case in this city was notified Tuesday at the military hospital of the second Cameroonian military region, which belongs in particular to the health district of Deïdo, according to the health authorities.
In the center of the country, health districts of Monatélé and Ndikinimeki, close to Yaoundé, each recorded a case on Tuesday, bringing to five the number of cases reported in this region since the announcement of the first case that occurred on July 12 at Jamot hospital, in the Djoungolo health district in Yaoundé, which adds up to three, including two confirmed and one death
The progress of the epidemic in the capital was observed with the notification of a second case in the health district of Djoungolo. The third case was notified Monday at the medical center of the 10th group of firefighters in the health district of the Green City.
The northern region remains the most affected, with four health districts in epidemic (Mayo Oulo, Guider, Golombé and Garoua II) on five affected, for a total of 46 reported cases including 5 confirmed and 5 deaths, according to the last assessment of the epidemic made by the Ministry of Public Health on Wednesday.
At the time of this evaluation, the epidemic seemed stabilized, no new cases having been notified, says the report drawn up by the teams of the Ministry conducted by the Deputy Director of the fight against disease, epidemics and pandemics, Dr. Georges Alain Etoundi Mballa.
To stop the ongoing epidemic, the Cameroonian authorities announced the establishment of a control system and hospital and community case management. They encourage people to change their behavior, through an awareness campaign that insists on hygiene and sanitation measures. F
