New York (United Nations) – Morocco is a leader in the mutualist field in Africa, in this sense that the Kingdom can contribute effectively to the reinforcement of the capacities of the African countries in this matter, affirmed in an interview with the MAP, Mrs. Virginia Gamba, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations.

"In Africa, Morocco is a leader of the mutual sector of the continent, and the Kingdom has a continental platform, namely the African Union of mutuality, which is composed of twenty members, including West African countries ", and the Kingdom holds the presidency, said Gamba in this interview on the sidelines of Wednesday's meeting in New York of a meeting of the World Union of Mutuality (UMM).

Ms. Gamba, who is also Representative Special Report of the UN Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, said that the Moroccan model represents a "very good standard for Africa, especially in the health and social services sector". "Therefore, I think that Morocco is a real example of effective mutualism at the service of the people," she said.

"I sincerely believe that Morocco is able to serve as a locomotive for strengthening capacity for the rest of Africa on how mutualism should function effectively, without corruption, in good governance and through the services it provides to communities, "added the UN official.

And recall in this respect that Morocco, which chairs the African Union of Mutuality, also serves as vice-president of the World Mutual Union, which is a world body, created on June 5, in the service of cooperation South-South

"So, I really think that Morocco has a say in this respect," said Ms. Gamba.

According to her, mutuality remains "a very important issue" for the United Nations. United Nations and South South, as well as for the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

"Member States must understand that no single country has the capacity to achieve the goals of Agenda 2030 without the support of civil society and the private sector, "noted the UN Assistant Secretary-General.

Therefore, mutuality and social services, which are private but regulated, as is the case of mutuals and cooperatives, should be included in the process of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals as an added value to government capacity in public services, she explained.

At the meeting of the World mutuality (UMM), on Wednesday, the experience of Morocco in the mutualist field was presented by Mr. Abdelmoula Abdelmoumni, president of the African Union of Mutuality and vice-president of the UMM.

Lo of this meeting organized on the sidelines of the UN High-Level Political Forum 2018, Mr. Abdelmoumni stressed that Morocco, with a wide experience in the mutualist field, and under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty the King Mohammed VI, has always expressed his full willingness to share his experience and expertise with the African and Latin American brothers in the framework of the South-South cooperation wanted by the Sovereign in a spirit of active solidarity between all the countries of these two continents.
