As part of its mission to raise awareness and protection of adolescents and young people against HIV / AIDS and STIs throughout the country, the Ministry of Youth, in partnership with CNLS, published yesterday the results of the 2018 edition of the National AIDS Awareness Week. Commonly called Youth Week / AIDS (SJS), the screenings organized on this occasion on this layer, made it possible to classify the region of Kolda most affected of the country with 8 positive cases.
The results of the 2018 edition of the national voluntary awareness and voluntary screening for free and anonymous hiv for the general population and youth in particular, organized by the Ministry of Youth through the Youth Promotion Project (Ppj) in partnership with the National Council against AIDS (Cnls) throughout the country, were published yesterday. Among the 14 regions of Senegal whose caravan has crisscrossed, that of Kolda is the most affected with 8 positive cases including 6 women and two men out of 291 detected. This confirms the feminization of the disease which remains a reality with 12 women against 6 men out of a total of 18 positive cases out of the 4,105 people screened in the 14 regions. Of those screened, 2836 are between the ages of 15 and 24, 1057 are between the ages of 25-49 and 158, and their age is over 49, which is a 96.45% performance rate in relation to starting target of 4,200 to be screened with three outbursts or 300 per region during the week by advanced strategies
This revelation is from Youth Promotion Project Director, Alassane Diallo. According to him, only the regions of Kaffrine and Fatick do not have a counseling center for young adolescents, making a little difficult the task especially the aforementioned where the strike of staff has impacted on the achievement of indicators that do not allow reach 100%. "All people who have been screened have withdrawn their results and the positive cases are referred to the level of care facilities for follow-up and treatment," he said. Mr. Diallo was speaking at the press briefing announcing the results of the screening caravan of the Youth / AIDS Week (Sjs) which Ziguinchor hosted the launching ceremony.
However, the choice of Ziguinchor to host this meeting you are not fortuitous. It is justified by its geographical position compared to The Gambia and Guinea Bissau, its situation of instability, its prevalence rate higher than the national average (1%) because of the mobility of its population, among others. This week of youth / AIDS aims to sensitize the authorities of the youth sector on the need to sustain the gains of prevention of hiv among teens and young people, to fight against discrimination and stigmatization with regard to Pv / Vih , to continue the preventions within this layer to tend towards the radical elimination of the new infections and transmissions between mother and child. The theme chosen for the 2018 edition is "reaching the three 90s by 2020: this is possible for a responsible, civic and voluntary youth". Thus, from the point of view of regional performance, Dakar comes first with 457 screened, including 2 positive cases, followed by Kaolack with 447 and Ziguinchor in third position with 427 screened including zero positive cases.
