Exports of forestry products represent 23.42% of the export value of the agricultural sector.
The United States, Japan, the European Union (EU), China and the Republic of Korea, which account for 87.33% of national exports of wood and wood products, have become the top five export markets of these products.
During the same period, the surplus export of Vietnamese forestry products reached $ 6.398 billion. Domestic imports of these products amounted to $ 2.1 billion, an increase of 6.17% year-on-year.
This performance is attributable to the restructuring of the forestry sector, with a number of high value production models.
In particular, the production, processing of wood and forestry products for export has been well developed. The domestic timber market has flourished, creating a strength for domestic production, encouraging organizations and individuals to invest in forest production.
The wood and wood products processing industry has grown strongly. There are around 3,500 companies, mainly private and FDI firms, operating in this sector. Processed products are more and more diverse, meeting the requirements of foreign markets. Vietnamese wooden furniture is exported to more than 100 countries and territories, with the United States, the European Union (EU), Japan, the Republic of Korea and China as main markets.
Many localities have actively implemented forest management measures for intensive planting.
In addition to forest development, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development worked with localities to develop five pilot models of economic cooperation and connection of forest value chains.
Vietnam's target is to reach $ 9.3 billion in silvicultural exports in 2018, and $ 12-13 billion by 2020.
