Black Friday was once again a particularly busy time for online traders, but also for criminals.

Thus, between the real and the false promos sometimes hid some particularly elaborate or astonishing scams. Among the popular products of the moment, Bitcoin has been the target of particularly numerous scams.

Uphold Black Friday Bitcoin Scam

Criminals have taken advantage of the image of the Uphold platform to send emails inviting to take advantage of 15% discount on the purchase of Bitcoin. From a real email Uphold, the scam was pretty well tied. The e-mail that featured the promotion was sent on November 21st at around 7pm, promising that any investment would be accompanied by an additional 15% Bitcoin credit. To make it even more serious, the offer had limitations: users could take advantage of the offer on the purchase of 0.1 to 50 Bitcoins maximum (up to $ 222,000).

4 hours after receiving the email, Uphold sent a second message to all his users alerting them to a phishing attempt. The hackers aimed to recover money and personal data by referring to a fake version of Uphold's site. Uphold said that the fraudulent email was not sent by a member of his team and that an investigation is underway, while also stating that no personal data has been compromised on the platform.
