YouTube changes strategy and will offer free original series

The next creations of the platform will no longer be accessible only to Premium members.

In the war of subscription streaming platforms, Youtube decided to change his tune. While all original series and films offered exclusively on the site were previously reserved for Premium subscribers (11 euros per month), Reuters reveals that Youtube should now make available to the general public its original programming to come, accompanied by advertisements, to generate income.

Google did not reveal the total number of subscribers to its paid offer, launched three years ago, and available in 29 countries, but we imagine that the results were not sufficient to persist in this model.

This change of strategy will be effective from 2019, but unfortunately will not concern – for the moment – the series already released, as the excellent Cobra Kai, or the French good surprise, The Emmereurs.

Note that the subscription YouTube Premium will always exist to remove the ad and be entitled to easier access to the music on the platform.
