The appointment of Brigadier General Sheikh Sène, replacing Meïssa Niang, to the post of High Commander of the National Gendarmerie, crowns a career on which shines the star of a crack on the eve of retirement. Like the late Mamadou Diop, the ex-mayor of Dakar, who brilliantly completed law studies cumulatively with his duties in the National Army, the Rufisque native, in 1959, is a lecturer in political science at the Faculty. Doctoral student in political science, he is author of a prodigious intellectual production entitled: "Involvement of security and defense forces in democratization in Africa: example of Senegal".

He previously held a Master's degree in Political Science from Cheikh Anta Diop University (Thesis: Defense and Security).

Clearly, security is his universe. He is the author of several essays on this theme he likes. We quote among others: "Security in the presidential elections: case of Senegal in 1988; MDOs: what roles and strategies for the state and other development actors; the gendarmerie and the suburbs: problematic of a peri-urban dimension; partnership, public security, private security ".

General Cheikh Sène gives a course of Master 2 Political Science "Political Governance" at the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of the University Cheikh Anta Diop of Dakar: "Police and Homeland Security".

In 1989, he attended the masters courses at Cftsm FAR in Morocco and obtained in 1993 the diploma of access to the rank of superior officer. In 1999, he completed an internship as an intelligence analyst at the National Security Bureau of the Republic of China Taiwan, Taipei. The same year, he is a trainee in major crisis management in the United States.

In 2006, he completed the Operational Level Planning Course at Koffi Anan Accra Center (KAIPTC) in Ghana.

General Cheikh Sène represented the Senegalese gendarmerie at several Euro-African police conferences on illegal emigration from 2006 to 2010.

In 2009, he attended an internship at the National Defense College in Stockholm, Sweden on management of an international crisis.

The new head of the national gendarmerie participated in the 2010 strategic level seminar on transnational organized crime and human security in West Africa co-organized in Accra Ghana by the Center for Strategic Studies.
