Abidjan opening of the first African energy market

The first African energy market opened on Tuesday at the offices of the African Development Bank (ADB) Abidjan, in the presence of Amadou Hott, vice-president of the financial institution, responsible for electricity, climate and green growth

The African energy market also aims to promote efficient technologies, initiatives tending to increase energy efficiency. demand, while creating a fair environment with different sources of energy, including solar, biomass and renewable energy.

Africa has the lowest rate of electricity generation. Estimates show that only 42% of the population has access to electricity, compared with 75% in developed countries. The sub-Saharan region has an average rate of 30%, compared to 14% in rural areas.

The second edition of the African Energy March is scheduled for November, on the sidelines of the African Investment Forum. Five other countries will be targeted, in addition to Nigeria, Zambia, Ethiopia, Egypt and Ivory Coast, who presented their experiences in this first edition.
