Dakar, Nov. 27 (APS) – Cire Lo, director of the cabinet of the Ministry of Women, Family and Gender, pleaded on Tuesday for the development of innovative strategies for combating violence based on violence. gender (GBV) in Senegal.


"If nothing is done to fight against gender-based violence, all the efforts made by the government to move towards women's empowerment will be in vain," he said.

He was speaking to reporters at the closing ceremony of a Demographic and Health Survey 2017 (DHS-2017) data sharing workshop on women's empowerment and GBV.

According to Ciré Lô, gender-based violence is "a crucial issue" for the effectiveness of women's rights and protection.

According to him, this workshop made it possible to share various indicators deemed relevant, which made it possible to become acquainted with the current state of the prevalence of the phenomenon.

"We have seen that from one space to another, there are inequalities, but in all spaces, we find that violence is present and pregnant women," he lamented.

He noted that the workshop also mapped the phenomenon, a process that highlighted "high prevalence" in some spaces, compared to others where gender-based violence is less meaningful.

In any case, "the phenomenon exists", he said, adding that from this information, the actors have the opportunity to help in the strategic decision making to make new progress in the fight against violence, but also in the process of empowering women.
