Africa: filmmakers on the continent looking for their future

Conscious of the development of the film industry on the continent, Africans share the reflections to give another direction to the 7th African art.

Cotonou, Dakar, Brazzaville, …. They came from all over Africa and recently gathered in Yaounde as part of the 22nd "Black Screens" festival. The opportunity for these film professionals to share ideas and experiences to advance their art across the continent and make it speak beyond the oceans and seas.

"It brings a plus for the filmmaker that I am. Being an actor who is on the set is one thing but it is better to learn from other people because this symposium organized by the Black Screens we have imminent personalities that come from the United States, Canada and other parts of the world and it is always very good for a filmmaker to be cultivated it is a real cultural broth so you have to enjoy it, "said Séverin Nelingui, a Cameroonian comedian.

One of the Weaknesses of African cinema is the isolation in which many professionals in the sector find themselves. So African filmmakers are rightly happy to take part in meetings like this one.

"These are the occasions where the different circumstances come together, of course, you know, and every person can to take different advantage of each of its circumstances, so I think that the cross-fertilization of these different opinions is very fruitful not only for the filmmakers, but also for the critics, "says Sada Niang, a professor of African cinema at the University of Victoria in Canada.
