Air transport: Camair-Co explodes its turnover

Camair-Co, the Cameroonian national airline, seems to leave the turbulent zone. In fact, on the brink of bankruptcy less than two years ago, Camair-Co is now displaying significantly improved financial indicators.

Thus, according to the data relating to the financial results of the company for the first half-year 2018, Camair-Co's turnover increased by 142% compared to the same period last year, reaching 12.3 billion CFA francs.

This performance results from the combined effects of the passenger traffic growth of + 67% and freight with more than 740 tonnes transported during the first half of 2018.

This is mainly due to the opening of new regional lines, which offset the drop in the filling rate for domestic flights, the improvement of the punctuality of flights and the densification of the fleet.

C These factors have significantly reduced the company's operating deficit to -1.3 billion FCFA, against FCFA 4.1 billion.

These results are the fruits of the recovery plan concocted by the US Boeing in 2016 which revolves around a certain number of points: reinforcement of the fleet, elimination of some unprofitable international flights, development of domestic connections and regional flights towards countries with high potential. Finally, remember that the company currently has a fleet of 6 aircraft.

In any case, these results, the first since the launch of the public company in March 2011, augur good prospects. The Cameroonian authorities hope that the company, which has lived so far under the infusion of the state, can now sail without the contribution of public finances.
