The Farnborough Air Show, near London, which ends this Sunday, July 22, highlighted if necessary the extraordinary dynamism of the civil aviation market. The 2018 edition of this show, which opened on July 16, was an exceptional vintage in terms of order intake for commercial aircraft. The value of firm orders and purchase commitments reached $ 192 billion (€ 163.7 billion) at the list price of manufacturers. This corresponds to a whopping $ 67.5 billion compared to the previous edition, in 2016. In total, more than 1,400 commercial aircraft were ordered during the show, for a total of $ 154 billion and more than 1,432 engines, worth $ 21.96 billion
"This is a record," said Farnborough International Managing Director Gareth Rogers in a statement.
Large Contracts
usually, Airbus and Boeing have carved out the lion's share. The two rivals have collected nearly 900 orders: 528 for Boeing for a total of $ 92 billion, and 431 for Airbus (excluding the newly acquired Bombardier CSeries) for a total of $ 70 billion. [19659005] The US group has announced orders or commitments for 55,777 and 32,787 long-haul aircraft, as well as 533 737 medium-haul aircraft and 5,747-8 medium-haul aircraft. For its part, Airbus has announced that it has signed orders or commitments for 35 A350s, the latest of its full-size aircraft, 356 of the A320 family, the remotorized version of its flagship medium-haul, 60 A220s and 44 A330s. Airbus also won an order from Air Asia X for an additional 34 A330neo aircraft, bringing the number of this aircraft ordered by the Asian long-haul low-cost airline to 100.
Concerning the A220 (formerly Bombardier C-Series) Airbus has signed a memorandum of understanding with a new US company, whose name has not been disclosed, for 60 A220-300s, for a list price of $ 5.5 billion. This agreement follows the one signed on July 10 with the American company JetBlue for the purchase of 60 A220-300 aircraft.
Of all the orders placed at Farnborough, there were a large number of so-called unidentified orders originating from of customers who wished to remain anonymous.
The Brazilian aircraft manufacturer, with whom Boeing has just concluded a strategic partnership, has announced that it has concluded for $ 14.8 billion contracts with different levels of commitments, ranging from simple purchase rights, with the firm order, through the letter of intent. ATR, the joint venture between Airbus and Leonardo-Finmeccanica, the world leader in turbo-propulsion aircraft with fewer than 90 seats, has registered 9 memoranda of understanding and an option to purchase 5 ATR 72-600 and 5 ATR 42 -600 of a global value at a list price of 245 million USD.
