Dakar, July 31 (APS) – Abdou Rahman Mbengue, President of the Movement for the Renaissance of the Voice of Islam (MOREVI), noted on Tuesday in Dakar the historical dimension of Seydina Bilal, the first muezzin of Islam, which he said had "a primordial role" in the "birth and development" of the Muslim religion.

He was speaking at a symposium on "The Life and Work of Seydina Bilal", organized at the Islamic Institute in Dakar, a meeting he used to remind that Bilal is "a true precursor and a pride for the black race and beyond, for all Africans".

"The MOREVI, through this great initiative, tries to rehabilitate and reconsider Bilal by revisiting the primordial role he played in the birth and development of Islam," he added. said.

An emblematic companion of the Prophet of Islam, he is "unquestionably a historical personality and a figurehead of universal Islam", he exalted.

The fact remains that "this enviable position of Bilal must not be the tree that hides the forest," he said.

"Bilal suffered, he was harmed and oppressed because of his skin and his status at a time when the Seal of the Prophets tried to break down some backward practices to inculcate in Meccans the universal, egalitarian message of justice of Islam, "Mbengue said.

The symposium was enhanced by the presence of Alioune Badara Bèye, president of the writers of Senegal, the chairman of the MOREVI Scientific Committee, Moustapha Guèye Khar, and the director of the Standing Committee on Information and Cultural Affairs ( COMIAC), Omar Seck, among others.
