PARIS (AFP) –

Amazon launches Friday in France "Deutsch-les-Landes", his first series produced in France, a comedy at the "Welcome to the ch'tis" with which she hopes to seduce a French audience fond of humor.

In Jiscalosse, a small imaginary village in the Landes that sold its castle to a company in Munich to deleverage, 200 German employees land overnight, for better or for worse …

This kind of forced twinning is the pretext to revisit in comical fashion the respective crossings of the French (such as the "village of Asterix") and their invading neighbors from the Rhine.

A spring scenario that is reminiscent of "Welcome to the Ch'tis", a film that played on the clash of cultures between Southerners and Northerners, and that does nothing to chance: two screenwriters blockbuster Dany Boon, the former authors of the "Guignols" Alexandre Charlot and Franck Magnier, participated in the writing of the series of Amazon.

"Deutsch-les-Landes" is carried by a cheerful trio of actresses, Marie-Anne Chazel ("Madam Mayor" of Jiscalosse), Sylvie Testud, and Franco-Austrian Roxane Duran, in a cross-border casting. There is also Christoph Maria Herbst, pro comedy on the other side of the Rhine, effective in a Bavarian setting who loves naturism.

Marie-Anne Chazel greatly appreciated the experience: "It was an adventure, we immersed ourselves in something new, and we had great encounters," she told AFP. And behind the "clash of cultures" explored by the series, "if there was a message, it is that there is always a way to get along, fall in love and love each other."

"We all have a priori, we laughed, but there is a lot of tenderness in what we stigmatize in the other," adds Sylvie Testud.

– "A taste" of Amazon's projects –

This Franco-German coproduction (Newen / Bavaria), composed of 10 episodes of 26 minutes, is the first series produced in France for Amazon. In Germany, it is already broadcast by Magenta, Deutsche Telekom's new online video service.

This is an important milestone for the American online sales giant, who launched Prime Video in France two years ago with a catalog almost exclusively American, and who works hard to acquire and develop content "made in France".

"This is the first time that we have been providing our customers with an unpublished French program, and this is just the beginning! We invest heavily in France, in very different genres, and we work with a lot of creators. is just a taste of what we are going to do, "says Georgia Brown, Amazon's original production manager in Europe.

Without revealing the budgets, formats and timing of these projects, she explains that Amazon's model is to satisfy first and foremost the tastes of local audiences (when that of its great rival Netflix is rather to produce European series that are as much potential global hits, like "Casa del Papel").

"Our obsession is to give our customers what they want, we have total autonomy in each territory to discover and cultivate what interests the audiences locally," says the manager.

The group also wants to continue its strategy of acquiring series already broadcast on French channels, and ensures that it will continue to work in this context with France Télévisions (Amazon Prime broadcasts in particular some of his hit series as "Captain Marleau", "Cherif" or "The cursed kings"), even if the leader of the public group, Delphine Ernotte, would like the French audiovisual sector to have exclusivity on its creations.

"There is a change in the consumption of television so it seems normal to me that the channels propose new modalities", but "we have a relationship of acquisition with the distribution branch of France Televisions, and that will continue", underlines Isabelle Bertrand, who manages program acquisitions at Amazon in France.
