The British host of a hit radio show in Lebanon was found dead Tuesday in his apartment, not far from Beirut, a source of security services on the assumption of murder.

The lifeless body of Gavin Ford was found at his home in the town of Beit Mery, east of the Lebanese capital, where Radio One's office was also located, the National News Agency reported. (Ani).

An investigation has been opened and "preliminary information suggests that Ford has been a victim of murder," the source of security services told AFP on condition of anonymity.

Britain's ambassador, Chris Rampling, said he was "shocked and deeply saddened by the death of Gavin Ford, one of Lebanon's most popular morning program hosts".

"The thoughts of everyone at the embassy accompany his family, his friends and colleagues at this moment terribly difficult," he tweeted, also publishing a photo of Ford.

Radio One, for its part, wrote on social networks: "We announce with heartbroken the disappearance of our dear Gavin Ford, member of our team for several and happy years".

Neither the police nor Radio One provided more details about the causes of his death.

Many netizens paid tribute to Ford, who was one of the most popular radio hosts in Lebanon for many years.
