Deputies observe a minute of silence in memory of Jacques Baudin

Dakar, Nov. 26 (APS) – The National Assembly, which met in plenary on Monday as part of the review of the 2019 Budget Law, observed a minute of silence in memory of the former mayor of Diourbel and ex- Minister of Foreign Affairs Jacques Baudin, who died the same day.


The deputies observed this minute of silence at the request of the 4th Vice President of the National Assembly, Abdoulaye Makhtar Diop.

"We have just been informed of the death of the former mayor of Diourbel and Foreign Minister Jacques Baudin, and we ask you to observe a minute of silence in his memory," he told the colleagues.

Born in 1939 in Diourbel, Me Baudin, a former deputy, joined the legal profession in 1983 before being taken to the helm of his hometown for the first time in 1986. He had two other mandates between 1996 and 2009.

He was successively Minister of Tourism and Environment (1990-1993), Minister of Justice (1993-1998) and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Senegalese from outside (1998-2000).

This politician, former president of the Diourbel Regional Union of the Socialist Party (PS, presidential movement) is also presented as a prominent defender of human rights.
