At the French-Spanish border, the village Perthus is about not to collect taxes from the inhabitants. This is what the regional chamber of accounts of Occitanie is working on, because the village is "too rich."

This village, which is one of the communes of the Pyrénées-Orientales, has been the subject of discussions for several days. Indeed, it is since the unusual opinion of the regional chamber of accounts, which told them of an "overbalance" because "surpluses accumulate."

Already, in 2017, credits were at 268.000 euros (about 175.5 million FCFA) while they spent only 5.280 euros (3.5 million FCFA).

To correct this situation, since the Perthus does not spend all this money , the municipality received the suggestion to no longer claim tax to the people.

The reason is that the municipality currently lives a situation of political conflict with the mayor headlining.

For several months now, the majority and the opposition have thrown themselves into spades and the budget vote has not taken place because of a lack of consensus.

"The regional audit office sends a strong message to these elected representatives by saying: little serious! Every year, you take out property tax and housing tax taxes, but at least you agree on an investment program, "said Dominique Joubert, president of the 3rd section of the regional chamber of finance. accounts, La Depeche du Midi

With a total of 586 inhabitants, the car parks of the village, alone, bring in 800,000 euros per year (nearly 524 million FCFA).

"And exercise after exercise, Le Perthus postpones surpluses on its budget (…) while the city council can not agree to spend this money in the service of citizens. (…) We wanted to mark the blow and put them in front of their responsibilities. "

For its part, the mayor of Perthus refutes this allegation for which the municipality would be too rich. "The commune of Perthus is not rich but has a surplus," says Marie-Hélène Ruart-Lucquin. "Eight opposition people are blocking the budget and investments. There is not too much money. This is not wealth, it is to make investments. "
