Disneyland Paris is expected to double its capacity, triple the number of hotel rooms and perhaps build a third amusement park by 2030, according to estimates.
A new Disney theme park in France?
It was announced earlier this year that the French station was to receive an investment of two billion euros (1.75 billion pounds sterling).
There will be an extension of the theme park with Marvel, Frozen and Star Wars attractions. And now, the Telegraph has revealed that a consultation report for the development site has shown that its goal by 2030 is to "double the capacity of visitors to the theme park by opening new attractions in the two existing parks and eventually build a third thematic park ".
It also said that an additional 14,700 hotel rooms will be created on a site near the A4 motorway, which connects the station to the center of Paris, against 5,800 currently. In the meantime, the report also indicated that the expansion would create 1,000 direct jobs in trade shows, restaurants, support functions and administration.
The Walt Disney Company took full control of the activity of the French tourist hotspots last year and is the most visited theme park in Europe.
In February of this year, Bob Iger, General Manager of Disney, announced the huge investment in the attraction after a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris.
The new development will include three new areas at Walt Disney Studios Park, which will be phased in from 2021. These include a new Marvel-themed eighteen and a live stage production as well as attractions based on Frozen and Star Wars.
The company Walt Disney said in a statement: "The expansion plan is one of the most ambitious development projects of Disneyland Paris since its opening in 1992 and highlights the company's commitment to the long-term success of the station as a reference of the Disney brand in Europe ".
Disneyland Paris covers a 2,230-hectare site some twenty kilometers east of the French capital, although only half of the site has been developed to date, according to the company's 2016 annual report. With more than 320 million visitors through its turnstiles since 1992, the park accounts for 6.2% of France's tourism receipts and has been an asset for local employment, employing some 16,000 people.
Despite this, Euro Disney had to face serious financial difficulties after making projections too optimistic about the number of visitors and getting too much debt.
Walt Disney took control of the troubled company in June 2017 and removed its shares from the stock.
Disneyland Paris currently has two theme parks – the Fairytale Disneyland Park and the Walt Disney Studios Park. It has seven hotels, two convention centers and a golf course.
