Dakar, Nov. 27 (APS) – Interior Minister Aly Nguouille Ndiaye on Tuesday revealed that eight million biometric ID cards have been made since the launch of their production on October 4, 2016, stating that 6 million 500 a thousand of them have already been delivered.
"Currently, 8 million cards are produced including 6,500,000 liveries," he told MPs during the review of the budget of his ministry in the National Assembly.
Regarding their distribution, "weekly reports are required" to take stock, he said, ensuring that there was "not found significant dysfunctions in this area".
According to the Minister of the Interior "cards already produced are given to the General Directorate of Elections [DGE], by the Directorate of File Automation [DAF], which routes them to the different places of withdrawal ".
"As I speak, four hundred and seventy thousand voter cards are in the distribution center," lamented Aly Nguouille Ndiaye.
Thus, he suggested to political actors "to encourage the members and sympathizers of their parties to withdraw their voter's card in order to exercise their right to vote".
Coming back to the production of new ECOWAS identity cards, Aly Nguouille Ndiaye said that the contract signed in this framework states that "this card is produced at a unit price of 5,000 FCFA, for a total amount of 10 million cards, or 50 billion CFA francs.
To date, the expenditures made in this context are "30 billion, plus a pending invoice of 10 billion, a total of 40 billion," he said.
According to him, "all the arrangements are made for a smooth conduct of the next presidential election" in Senegal.
